Crikey… time has flown by.. we’ve been so busy with breeding, jobs, committee and all things property related, that I clean forgot about updating the blog.
So a catch up is required….
October: Both Duchess and Rebel suffered serious bite injuries from Greg whilst we trialed him living with Rebel for company – it was only a week and he was a nasty critter the whole time….so back to his own paddock he went.. leaving Duchess with a 20 stitch reminder of his visit where her skin needed to be re-connected to her neck and Rebel with a good chunk out of his muzzle needing to be cleaned out and packed. Because of the injury Duchess’s breeding season debut at Beaudesert was delayed for a fortnight and Reb’s had to endure weeks of cream being packed into his wound morning and night.
These injuries seem so long ago now, Duchess was delivered to Beaudesert and has been inseminated by the magnificant grey stallion, What’s Wanted and has been home for a fortnight now. Her pregnancy confirmation is due tomorrow so we are excitedly hoping all is well. Rebel has forgotten his cream ordeal now that we’ve moved into more desensitizing activities with tarps and crush walk throughs.
We had 50ml of rain a few weeks ago so that gave us some great feed for all the horses, but now it’s dying back. The three biggies have loved their daily outings into the house yard to rummage through the selection. Pearl is feeling her pregnancy these days and at 8 months she’s less inclind to move too quickly so rely’s more on her foot stamping to keep the others in line rather than physically chasing them away.
I have finished my probation now after 6 months and fully employed with the APS. Challenging work that has kept my brain in overload for months and months. I am hoping that with the pressure now off I can get back to normal routines.
Excitement this week – Shires of Luscomebe have announced their two new arrivals last weekend, Lady Grey and her foal, Beauty. These beautiful Shires, Mare and foal, are brand new blood lines here Australia so a great genetic boost for our region. The added bonus is that Lady Grey is pregnant to another UK stallion. AS a final note there has been loads of events going on for Deacons Gate Shires these past months sadly the recall is gone so you’ll have to live with only the bare bones until next time.
